Emmy award-winning comedian Hannah Gadsby’s new Netflix comedy special, Hannah Gadsby: Something Special, will premiere globally on 9 May.

This is Hannah’s third Netflix special, directed by Jenney Shamash and was filmed at the Sydney Opera House in September 2022.

News was announced on Instagram yesterday with Hannah adding they were, “Pretty darn chuffed to be able to share this one with y’all.”

They added, “It’s a feel good show. Seriously”, which may come as a surprise to fans after their previous specials, Nanette and Douglas, which had more eye-opening, evocative and somber themes. The “smart and feel good set” will however continue to explore many LGBTQIA themes.

“The comedian talks about a wedding (theirs!), more than one traumatic encounter with a bunny and much more.”

Netflix has come under fire in recent years for platforming transphobic comedians like Dave Chapelle. As a genderqueer lesbian Hannah Gadsby has been vocal in criticising Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos:

“You didn’t pay me nearly enough to deal with the real world consequences of the hate speech dog whistling you refuse to acknowledge.”

“F**k you and your amoral algorithm cult.”

Hannah Gadsby: Something Special is available to stream on Netflix on 9 May.
