On 16 December, The Big Queer Poetry Show will take place at Peckham Levels in South London. The night begins at 7pm and will include performances from 14 LGBTQIA poets, some exciting raffle prizes, and will conclude with an after party that ends at 1am. As well as this, one lucky ticket holder will get the chance to perform at the show! All proceeds from this event will go to Stonewall Housing – a charity that supports LGBTQIA people living in unsafe environments or facing homelessness.

The showcase will be hosted by Char Bailey – DIVA’s features writer, and Em Hunter – a spoken word poet and activist from East London. They are both House of Stonewall Champions, which means that they joined the House of Stonewall because of a genuine belief in Stonewall’s mission, and are committed to helping with their goals.

Stonewall Housing has revealed that the referral numbers of people fleeing domestic abuse have increased by 78% since 2019. It is apparent that it has never been more imperative to support this charity as the society continues to treat LGBTQIA people with hostility. In 2022, they have been averaging 29 referrals per week, and they are on track to support over 2000 people this year. The work that Em and Char are doing with this event will provide invaluable support to this charity, and to the LGBTQIA community at large.

For those who are eager to be there, unfortunately the showcase itself has sold out – but there are some tickets available for the after party so you can support Stonewall Housing and party with some of the incredible people taking part in the event.

Tickets for the after party are available here. If you’re unable to attend but you want to support Stonewall Housing, visit their page here!

All the details about the performers and the event can be found on Instagram @thebigqueerpoetryshow.

DIVA staff will be covering the show, so make sure to watch our socials to see some snippets of the night!

DIVA magazine celebrates 28 years in print in 2022. If you like what we do, then get behind LGBTQIA media and keep us going for another generation. Your support is invaluable.
