Harlivy are back this July for the third season of animated series Harley Quinn. After two years since the release of the season two finale, which saw Harley and Ivy driving off into the sunset and confessing their love for each other, fans are excited for a new chapter of this supervillain romance.
Harley Quinn is based on the DC comics character of the same name. It follows the story of Harley after her breakup with the Joker attempting to form her own crew and take over Gotham. While in the comics, Harley and her BFF Ivy develop feelings for each other early on, in the series, their love story is more of a slow burn.
In There’s No Place To Go But Down (episode 7, season 2), Ivy saves Harley from falling into The Pit and the two finally kiss. At the end of Season 2, Ivy ditches her fiancé Kite Man and fully embraces her feelings for Harley. Season 3 is expected to fully delve into the couple’s love for each other. And fans are here for it.
HBO Max released the new season’s official trailer on June 28. It starts with Harley wishing a happy two week anniversary to her lover and offering her Amanda Waller – the head of the Suicide Squad – tied up in a bag as a gift. The couple sets off for their “Eat, bang and kill tour” straight after. On the notes of Joan Jett’s Bad Reputation, they kill, they drink and they “do a ton of banging”, as Harley tells Clayface and King Shark when they reunite.
The trailer promises that the new season will be “fun, raunchy and a little scary”. And it will centre on the main character’s passionate love story. #Harlivy even have their own emoji, featuring a heart wrapped in a thorny vine. Season 2 will drop on HBO Max on July 28 in the US. In the UK, the release is expected in autumn this year.
And the fans are very excited
