Pride Month isn’t over yet! In collaboration with Channel 4, BFI Southbank are screening Freedom: 50 Years of Pride at 18:00 on Wednesday 29 June. The best part? We have 5x pairs of tickets to give away to you lovely DIVA readers!

Want to enter? It’s super simple. All you need to do is tweet the hashtag #DIVAXChannel4 with your favourite LGBTQI film, and we’ll pick our worthy winners.

Following the screening, there will be a Q&A hosted by Justin Myers (Guyliner) featuring none other than Stephen Daldry, Joe Robertson, Lady Phyll, Lucia Blayke and Femi Otitoju.

Channel 4 is marking 50 years of Pride in the UK with a special season of landmark programmes and specials. This bumper season of high-profile content will reflect on the incredible achievements and challenges of advancing LGBTQI rights and visibility over the last half century, while also platforming the diversity of identity and sexuality in the 2020s.

At the centre of the season will be a pair of new factual commissions, one being Freedom: 50 Years of Pride. This landmark documentary explores the history of the movement in the UK, made in collaboration with Oscar-nominated filmmaker Stephen Daldry and playwright Joe Robertson. The second factual commission will focus on trans history, and April Ashley will be the first in-depth feature documentary centring the life of this LGBTQI trailblazer. April, who died last year at the age of 86, was one of the country’s most prominent transgender women.

To keep up with BFI, follow them on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. If you’d like to explore the BFI Flare back catalogue and discover more incredible LGBTQI films, you can do so via the BFI Player.

DIVA magazine celebrates 28 years in print in 2022. If you like what we do, then get behind LGBTQI media and keep us going for another generation. Your support is invaluable.
