Ivory Aquino makes herstory as first trans character to be cast in a DC Comics feature film
Much is left unknown about the upcoming Batgirl film, but last week it was revealed that Ivory Aquino has been cast as Alysia Yeoh. Superhero fans rejoiced at the news and we’re all eagerly anticipating more reveals about what to expect from Batgirl.
Ivory shared the news on Instagram with a heartfelt caption where she wrote: “…And kudos to #DC #WarnerBrothers @hbomax for bringing onto the screens of the #DCuniverse a depiction of #trans folks thatâs reflective of our existence in the world (or part of it at least!) and for recognizing how much fun weâre all gonna have with Alysia in the houseđ”
Jonathan Van Ness’ new show premiered on Netflix
Queer Eye’s grooming guru has taken off on a new solo project which was released last Friday. Getting Curious With Jonathan Van Ness is based on their podcast of the same title. You can find out more about the show here.
Milestone birthdays
The two trailblazing activists Linda Riley and Peter Tatchell both celebrated their birthdays last week. Linda turned 60 and Peter 70.

Stonewall responded to EHRC statements on upcoming LGBTQI legislation
On 26 January Kishwer Falkner, Chair of the Equality And Human Rights Commission, wrote a statement to the Scottish government asking it to pause plans to simplify the legal requirements for gender recognition. The EHRC also issued a statement arguing a further delay to the ban on conversion therapy. You can read more about Stonewall’s response here.
Queer Britain will be opening the UKâs first national LGBTQI museum
Last week Art Fund announced Queer Britain as new tenants at 2 Granary Square, London. This is a celebratory moment for Queer Britain. The charity was established in 2018 with a mission to create a new museum which would be an inclusive place that celebrates stories, people and places within the LGBTQI community.
