This year is shaping up to be full of unforgettable onscreen moments

Last year provided some excellent onscreen moments for LGBTQI women and non-binary people to see ourselves represented in. We fell in love with so many characters’ who we can’t wait to see return this year. There’s also some exciting new additions we can’t wait to meet. Here are the five I’m most excited for.
Gentleman Jack
The first season of this show cemented it as an all-time fave here at DIVA HQ. Suranne Jones’ portrayal of the trailblazing Anne Lister was phenomenal and left us hungry for more. There is currently no official release date, but rest assured, once there is we will be shouting it from the rooftops!
Doctor Who
2022 started off with a bang, thanks to the episode Eve Of The Daleks. Thasmin shippers rejoiced as Yaz’s feelings for the 13th Doctor were made canon. In the episodes that will air later in the year we’ll get to see how the Doctor responds. It’s a bittersweet moment as in autumn the Doctor will regenerate and Jodie Whittaker will step down from the role.
Killing Eve
This fast-paced spy thriller is back in February for its forth and final season. The sexual tension between the two female leads has captivated many viewers. The previous seasons have used the relationship between the two to explore intimacy, power dynamics and abuse. Oh and of course, I can never get enough of Fiona Shaw.
Heartstopper
Both bookworms and screen buffs can get equally excited about this one. The TV adaptation of Alice Oseman’s graphic novel series Heartstopper. Whilst the series follow a teen #MLM romance, there are a range of lovable side characters from the LGBTQI community. Release date is TBC, but hopefully the wait will soon be over!
Sex Education
Season three of this instant pop-culture hit was the best so far. We were introduced to Cal, who provided some much needed Black non-binary representation to our screens. In one episode the show also addressed stigmas and misinformation surrounding HIV. If the series so far is anything to go by, the fourth season will be epic. There’s no official release date yet, but our best bets would be sometime in September.
