INTERVIEW BY ELEANOR NOYCE, IMAGE BY JOHN RUSSO, 20TH CENTURY STUDIOS

We talked to the musical theatre sensation Ariana DeBose who has acted her way into our hearts through her portrayals of Disco Donna, Alyssa Greene and most recently Anita in the latest adaptation of West Side Story.

Here’s your teaser for what she had to say in this interview:

Ariana on…

Playing Anita

“Traditionally, Afro-Latinos are not considered for this role. It’s very rare that you see an Anita who presents as a Black woman, so I was surprised to be asked.”

Working with Steven Spielberg

“Steven is a man of integrity, and it was a beautiful collaboration.”

Coming out

“My coming out experience didn’t really feel like a big to-do – I’ve been living my life exactly as I am since I came out of the womb, so it didn’t feel like a big deal.”
