Ready for a melanated serving of queer cheer?

Looking for a fun and bold way to get into the seasonal spirit? Well then you don’t want to miss this show-stopping Christmas Cabaret on 18 December at Shoreditch Town Hall, brought to you by The Cocoa Butter Club. The night will serve up burlesque, drag, music, spoken word, circus arts and more!
This show is part of the Shoreditch Town Hall’s Unwrapped series of “joyfully eclectic” events which will be showcased throughout December. The cabaret will see performances from Demi Noire, an award winning international burlesque artist, Jaide Annalise, a talented circus artist who specialises in Cyr Wheel and acrobatics, Amazí, a two time Guiness World Recording holding hula-hooper with a twist, Lauren Elise a pole artist with a host of international competitions and performances under her belt, Kiki Snatch, a soulful singer and fierce lip sync dance trickster, Mimi Sugarpill, a neo-burlesque performer and singer with a voice like butter and Zoë Marshall, Aussie born UK-based artist with many talents to boast from contortion to aerial hoop.

Sadie Sinner, founder and curator of The Cocoa Butter Club said: “There will be many christmas shows available to see this year, but there’s only one all-queer POC christmas show.”
The Cocoa Butter Club was born out of protest to the performing arts landscape and the constant cultural appropriation, lack of diversity and other limitations within the cabaret scene. The club is a place where “melanted are celebrated”. The club aims to “decolonise and moisturise” stages across the world whilst changing the narratives of bodies of colour and empowering agency and autonomy. I for one am on the edge of my seat.
“People of colour deserve to see themselves in positions of joy,” Sadie shared. “After the last two years, with all of us being isolated from one another and our last Christmas show being cancelled, this show is extra special. It’s about us coming together with our chosen families, it’s about creating a space for escapism and reminding ourselves what it is to be joyful.”
