DIVA was lucky enough to be invited along to Christina’s album launch in Soho for a night of music and celebrations

BY SOPHIE GRIFFITHS

On a cold Friday night in the heart of Soho, the friends, family and fans of Christina Novelli all gathered together for a night of celebration.

After starting her singing career when she was just 17, Christina has now released her first full length album, and DIVA is loving it.

It’s been a busy few months for Christina, having just jetted off to Greece for the queer wedding of the year in an emotional clifftop ceremony in Santorini.

The photos from her wedding to Tara Sirrell hit the newsstands on the cover of HELLO! magazine and they are absolutely dreamy.

The new album is a very different sound for Christina. Gone are the days of synthy club tunes and here are the acoustic ballads showing off her vocals and stripping the songs right down to their bones. The points of origin where the songs began are revealed in all their glory.

Sadly Christina was ill on the night and couldn’t perform the whole album like she was hoping to, but we were treated to a live performance of Black Hole.

Through My Eyes [The Acoustic Sessions Vol 1.] is available on Spotify now and it’s the perfect soundtrack for a cosy wintry evening. We can’t recommend it enough!

This is the first time we’ve seen Christina without the “&s” and the “featurings”. Instead we get her lyrics and music placed firmly centre stage and in the spotlight to be appreciated in the most intimate way.

New meanings are derived and different interpretations open up from hearing these club classics in such a raw way. With them comes the opportunity to focus not only on the emotion of the lyrics, but on Christina’s compelling and outstanding vocal ability.

Only reading DIVA online? You’re missing out. For more news, reviews and commentary, support queer content and buy the latest issue. It’s pretty badass, if we do say so ourselves.
