Our favourite queer twins are back and we’re counting down the days until their new album and book…

Just in case you weren’t aware, Tegan and Sara are releasing their memoir, High School, next week (24 September) and just three days later we’ll be blessed with a new album, Hey, I’m Just Like You.
It’s an album full of re-corded songs that the pair found on old cassette tapes featuring music they originally wrote together as teens.
Today, they have dropped their new song, Don’t Believe The Things They Tell You (They Lie). It’s a very different sound for the duo, featuring some heavy rock mixed in with their usual synthy pop, but it pays off so well.
The emotional lyrics examine the layers of deceit that cloud even the closest of relationships. Their powerful words such as, “I don’t wanna be a liar, but I do it everyday,” are backed with intense guitars and drums that make their voices sound even more epic.
Speaking of the song, Sara recalls, “Our mother tells a story about watching the 1980s television show Punky Brewster with us when we were four years old. The episode’s morality tale focused on lying, and near the end of the show, she describes one of us climbing onto her back, sobbing into her neck and confessing a lie we’d told her earlier in the day. At 15, we started telling lies again, and we absolved ourselves constantly in the lyrics of our songs.”
Tegan and Sara have also announced a run of UK tour dates to celebrate the release of their album and book. It’s a multi-dimensional show unlike anything they have ever done before. You can catch them at Shepherd’s Bush Empire on 17 November.
