K Stew reveals the challenges faced by queer women in the film industry

Hollywood star, Kristen Stewart revealed that she had been advised by people in the film industry to hide her sexuality if she wanted to land big film roles.

When speaking about her experiences as a queer woman in the industry, Kristen said: “I have fully been told, “If you do yourself a favour, and don’t go out holding your girlfriend’s hand in public you might get a Marvel movie.”

She added: “I don’t want to work with people like that.”

She also discussed why she now feels more able to respond to the media and fans interest in her sexuality.

Kristen has always faced intense attention surrounding her sexuality, with her relationships constantly being publicised in the media.

Though Stewart is often described as bisexual, she prefers not to label herself, something she said took her a while to realise was even possible.

“I was informed by an old-school mentality, which is – you want to preserve your career and your success and your productivity, and there are people in the world who don’t like you, and they don’t like that you date girls, and they don’t like that you don’t identify as a quote unquote ‘lesbian’, but you also don’t identify as a quote unquote ‘heterosexual’. And people like to know stuff, so what the fuck are you?”

“I just think we’re all kind of getting to a place where – I don’t know, evolution’s a weird thing – we’re all becoming incredibly ambiguous … And it’s this really gorgeous thing.”

Kristen Stewart is instead determined to make the conversation surrounding sexuality easier for everyone and doesn’t care about how this could impact her career, despite other people in the industry believing it could better it.

We’re with you K Stew, keep on being our queer queen of film. 🌈
