In the middle of #PrideMonth, pop superstar and ever-outspoken LGBTQI ally Taylor Swift has given us a gift in the shape of her new, star-studded music video for rainbowlicious single You Need To Calm Down – which has already amassed over 20 million views on YouTube. (Wowzers…)
A longtime, vocal supporter of LGBTQI rights, Swift’s brand spankin’, colourful music video is filled with major queer icons both celebrating their identities and overtly shutting down homophobia.
Lez/bi stars who feature include celebs including HRH Ellen DeGeneres, YouTuber and Hanalyze This podcast presenter Hannah Hart and Girls Like Girls singer, aka The Lesbian Jesus, Hayley Kiyoko.
As the video wraps, Swift encourages her fans to support all of the queer celebs who feature and who are bringing LGBTQI issues into the spotlight – reminding homophobes that throwing shade, “never made anyone less gay.”
She also calls for viewers to sign her petition, writing:
“Let’s show our pride by demanding that, on a national level, our laws truly treat all of our citizens equally.”
