Oh, and it’s created by queer writer and director Quinn Shephard

Netflix has kicked off spooky season in true sapphic style by releasing the trailer for the new eight-episode series The Body. Created by Quinn Shephard, The Body follows a group of Catholic schoolgirls who set off mass hysteria in their town after a dance-team initiation goes wrong.
So… is it queer? From the trailer, it’s not 100% clear. But Quinn, who is queer, has spoken to Tudum about writing the show the year she came out. “I joke that this show is so me – it’s really aggressively me,” she added. “It’s satirizing some of the trauma of growing up queer and repressed and the confusion around that.”
The show stars Kristina Bogic, Sara Boustany, Geena Meszaros and more exciting new talent. Queer audiences will be very excited to see Bachelor star Gabby Windey as Coach Miller.
Quinn has said that The Body is “a love letter to all the ’90s and Y2K teen movies and erotic thrillers”, something many LGBTQIA+ audiences will adore. She cites queer classics like Jennifer’s Body as being part of the inspiration.
Expanding on how the series followed her own coming out, Quinn also said: “All the confusion, shame, passion, spirituality, and the language of girlhood [were things] I was still learning to speak. It felt really heavy to me.”
Quinn is no stranger to queer media. She starred in the queer classic The Miseducation Of Cameron Post alongside Chloë Grace Moretz. Her previous directorial projects include Blame and Not Okay.
The Body will premiere on Netflix on 11 November.
