Authentic, genuinely good bisexual representation can feel nearly impossible to find on screen. Tired tropes, shoddy writing or bad plotlines can often transform promising bi+ characters into old stereotypes. But, this Bisexual Awareness Week (16-23 September), have no fear! We’ve compiled a list of films with bisexual characters in them that won’t leave you wanting more.
Heartstopper Forever (2026)
Based on Alice Oseman’s iconic books, the Heartstopper series has been serving up LGBTQIA+ representation like no other show. The final instalment in the beloved series, the film Heartstopper Forever, sees these beloved characters get ready for university. Nick Nelson serves up powerful bisexual representation.
Appropriate Behaviour (2015)
Desiree Akhavan’s Appropriate Behaviour is messy, relatable and very funny. The film follows Shirin, an Iranian-American bisexual woman who is learning to balance being the ideal Persian daughter for her family with her real life.
Shiva Baby (2020)
Rachel Sennott stars as directionless bisexual Jewish woman Danielle in this comedy. Taking place at a shiva, Danielle is forced to encounter her sugar daddy and successful ex-girlfriend all while trying to manage the judgement of her family.
Margarita With A Straw (2014)
This heartwarming film follows an Indian teenager with cerebral palsy who moves to America for university. It’s during this period that she begins to understand her sexuality further, eventually coming out as bisexual. It’s sad, it’s joyful, and it’s a perfect hidden gem film.
My Old Ass (2024)
Megan Park’s film My Old Ass is the perfect, candid bisexual coming-of-age story. The film follows Elliott who, after taking psychedelic mushrooms, can see her older self, played by none other than Aubrey Plaza.
