To celebrate the release of The Vampire Lestat, we’re looking back on some of our favourites

It’s a very exciting time to be a fan of vampires. In the US, the brand new season of Interview With The Vampire, renamed The Vampire Lestat, came out over the weekend. To celebrate, let’s take a look at some of our favourite vampire flicks and series that have also offered up fab lesbian and sapphic representation.

Interview With The Vampire

I belatedly got into this book-to-screen adaptation of Anne Rice’s novels this year, and while I’m happy to be here, I’m so annoyed that I didn’t get to be obsessed with and devastated by this series sooner. This existential show offers up a diverse cast of LGBTQIA+ characters who are wonderfully messy. And Claudia, oh my Claudia. She’s defiant, outrageous, wicked smart and also queer.

First Kill

Although we lost this WLW teen show to the Cancel Your Gays trope, this is still well worth watching. If you love forbidden love stories, you’ll get giddy over this Vampire x Vampire Hunter romance.

Dracula’s Ex-Girlfriend

Abigail Thorn (House Of The Dragon) wrote and starred in this comedy-horror short film. We follow two of Count Dracula’s ex-lovers as they catch up over drinks and discuss their traumas caused by the famous vamp.

Jennifer’s Body

Yes, I know, I know, Jennifer is technically not a vampire in this film. She’s a succubus. But trust me, if you love vampire media, you’ll love this one. If I had watched this when it came out, I guarantee I would’ve figured out my queerness a lot sooner. It’s well worth re-watching every year.

True Blood

I secretly watched this series on my laptop in my bedroom as a teenager. It feels like a fever dream now. In fact, I might re-watch it soon. There are a lot of LGBTQIA+ vamps in this one. It’s very bloody and full of smut.

Carmilla

If you like your paranormal stories more on the gothic side, you’ll like this. Based on the 19th-century novella of the same name, this follows a young girl whose fate becomes intertwined with the titular character, Carmilla, a sapphic vampire. There’s a lot of mystery and suspense in this tale.

The Twilight Saga

This is an honourable mention because while there are no LGBTQIA+ characters in this entire franchise, it’s somehow so gay. Even the film’s lead, Kristen Stewart, has spoken out on the queer undertones.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer

And here’s another cheeky honourable mention. I must be feeling brave today because I must confess that I’ve only ever seen one episode of this series. But I know through my time at DIVA, it is beloved by many of our readers, and contains many people’s favourite sapphic ships. I will watch it one day!
