Our favourite lesbian detective has credited The Traitors for saving her life, after being diagnosed with a “quite serious heart disease”.
Amanda Collier was banished from The Traitors’ castle at the roundtable last Thursday (8 Jan) following a tense tie-break with Reece, leaving her fate to chance. Combined with the Traitor-on-Traitor clash between Rachel and Fiona, viewers branded the episode one of the most shocking in the show’s history.
Since leaving the show, Amanda has spoken to BBC North West Tonight about her health.
She revealed she first sought medical checks in 2019 after her sister suffered a heart attack, with a CT scan finding some slight damage to her heart.
Although her cardiologist signed her off to take part in The Traitors, the show’s producers asked her to undergo another CT scan “just to be sure”.
It was this extra “due diligence” that Amanda credited with saving her life, as the scan revealed her condition had worsened over the five years since her initial tests.
“I would never have noticed it because I keep myself fit and healthy. I am quite a fit person”, she said.
Amanda added: “But the good news is that I’m now on a course of drugs, and I’ve changed my lifestyle, and I’m regularly checked by the NHS, so I’m in a good place.”
She expressed her thanks to the show, saying: “I’m very, very grateful.”
The Traitors star is keen to use her new platform to raise awareness about heart disease, and is now an advocate for the British Heart Foundation.
“I want to use what I’ve got, and what I have unmasked just over the last couple of weeks, to tell people that heart disease doesn’t have an age, young and old people can get heart disease,” she said. “It doesn’t have to stop you doing what you love.”
