Do you want to connect with other sapphics, but are tired of the apps?

I’m Sofie Roos, a Swedish based sexologist and relationship therapist, as well as author for sex and relationship magazine Passionerad. I know it can feel like lesbians are a myth sometimes because of how hard it is to connect, so here are seven ways to find other sapphics, no matter if you’re looking for friends or a partner!

Attend sapphic events

There’s a lot of queer events going on all the time, not only Pride, but also sapphic book clubs, pub crawls, hikes, game nights, sports activities, trips and running clubs.

If you have any LGBTQIA+ resource centre at your University, or any local queer community space where you live, you’ll often find these events there.

And if you are okay with searching online, you’ll find plenty in Facebook groups, on blogs or on your local sapphic community’s Instagram – and then you can just fill your calendar with what seems interesting!

Attend a concert with a queer female musician

Sapphics love to see queer women perform live, so look for any sapphic concert near you and go there with an open mind to connect with others. It’s extra good if the venue is small and you can go there before the concert starts to grab a drink or a snack and talk to other visitors.

Lesbian clubs and bars are amazing

Sapphic clubs and bars are always a good place for meeting other sapphics, no matter if your intentions are to just make new friends, have a drink and watch people, or find someone to go home with.

Turn towards queer friendly activities

Some activities just, well, tend to attract sapphics, so hanging out there gives great chances of connecting with other queers.

This might sound cliché, but rock climbing, playing the game Dungeons & Dragons or trying roller derby will most likely make you meet other sapphics, especially if you look for special queer nights at the sport clubs!

Other activities where sapphics tend to be found are martial arts, basketball and art! You’ll also find sapphics in independent book clubs.

Use the internet as a way to connect, but do things IRL

Even if not wanting to meet other sapphics online, taking help of Facebook groups, Instagram accounts, apps, websites or other communities, such as forums where they flag for queer happenings, can help you connect with other sapphics to then meet IRL.

So see online ways of connecting as a complement that gives you better chances of even knowing what’s going on within the community.

Signal that you’re queer to attract other sapphics

By showing others that you’re queer in a way that you feel comfortable with, you can make other sapphics notice and approach you. You can queer signal by wearing a pin with a queer flag or by using your clothes, or in any other way you think tells others who you are into.

Go to political events

You don’t have to be politically interested to attend a political event that’s pro queer, and there you’ll find plenty of sapphics, I promise you!
