Getting intimate in the shower can either be one of the hottest ways to have sex ever, or it can turn out to just be tricky, slippery and dry. I’m Sofie Roos, a licensed sexologist, relationship therapist and author for the Swedish relationship and sex positive magazine Passionerad, and I’m here to guide you all sapphics out there to the best shower sex ever.

Sex positions to try in the shower

If wanting to strap or peg in the shower, the receiver can bend forward when standing, while their partner holds their arms. This makes a deep version of doggystyle that is suitable for the shower!

If you have enough room, you can do the cowgirl position by having the rider standing on their feet over their partner, and the one being under leaning their back against the wall.

For oral sex, one of you can stand and the other one can sit on their knees in front or under to lick and use their hands. The receiver can also turn around and bend forward so their ass is facing the performer’s face when they’re sitting on their knees.

Last but not least, you can sit on the floor against the wall next to one another and let the water pour down on you while you finger yourself or each other.

Pro tip: Talk about what positions you’re interested in beforehand and try them out very carefully. The limited space, slippery floor and water flooding down make it a lot trickier than having sex in a bed, so a little bit of planning and good communication will make it easier.

Silicone-based lube is a saviour

The water tends to flush away the natural lubrication, making the shower sex dry and not so pleasurable at all, so make sure to use silicone-based lube for oral and finger sex.

If using a strap-on, a water-resistant sex toy made out of silicone, or a dental dam, then you instead need to stick to water-based lube. Even though it doesn’t stand against the water as well, it’s still much better than nothing!

Use the shower as a vibrator

Many showers give the option to use a thicker massage beam on the shower head. If that’s the case with your shower, then you can use this thick beam on the clitoris of each other. It massages just as great, if not better, than most vibrators. Don’t forget to try out different pressures and temperatures.

If your showerhead doesn’t have this beam and you’d like to use your shower as a vibrator, both during shower sex and masturbation, then you can invest in Womaniser’s shower beam “Wave”, which you can find at their official store

Try out temperature play

Temperature play is when you use hot and cold on your body’s erogenous zones to enhance the feeling. By playing around with different water temperatures, you can easily discover how temperature play makes the sex feel different.

Use an anti-slip rug

Slipping during shower sex is the biggest risk. By investing in an anti-slip rug, you can go more all in without needing to be too worried about ending on the floor for the wrong reasons.

Invest in water-resistant sex toys

There are plenty of great sex toys out there that can be used in water. Dildos, water-proof vibrators and anal beads are a few options that work well.

Pro tip: Use the shower as a scene for foreplay before going to bed. In the shower, you can clean each other up, make out and tease!
