If you’re like us, you’ve been waiting patiently week after week for the release of The Last Of Us season two’s new episodes. We’ve laughed, cried and adored seeing the new developments in the beloved dystopian show, particularly surrounding Ellie’s LGBTQIA storyline.

If you’ve still got room for more dystopian and supernatural sapphics, here are our top picks for what you should watch next.

The 100

So you’re looking for a dystopian show all about humanity on the brink of survival? The 100 is an almost perfect match. After a nuclear apocalypse wipes out most of life on Earth, 100 young exiles are sent down from space to see if Earth is now habitable. The show has been widely praised for its LGBTQIA representation, with characters like Clarke Griffin, who is bi, bringing visibility to the end of the world.

Where to watch: Amazon Prime

The Handmaid’s Tale

While this series may not contain any zombie-inducing fungus, it is a pretty bleak look at a dystopian future not too far away. Based on Margaret Atwood’s cult classic The Handmaid’s Tale, this series follows the lives of women in Gilead who are forced to bear the children of high-ranking men. This re-imagining of the classic book features a number of lesbian characters, forced to hide who they are for fear of torture or worse. It also stars LGBTQIA-beloved actors like Samira Wiley.

The Wilds

You loved seeing how humanity was forced to rebuild itself from the ground in The Last Of Us. Why not check out the sapphic thriller The Wilds, focusing on a group of teenagers “stranded” on a deserted island? Naturally, in a group of teenage girls some gay awakening will occur, leading to beautiful and devastating storylines.

Wynonna Earp

If chosen family and supernatural themes are more your bag, this sapphic classic is a must. Wynonna Earp is on a mission to send demons and supernatural beings back to hell, a bit like Ellie hunting the Infected. Canonically queer, Wynonna Earp was hailed for its depiction of sapphic couples, notably the relationship between Wynonna and Nicole.

Sense8

We can’t really do a list of supernatural or dystopian series to watch without mentioning Sense8. This beloved show follows eight strangers who are connected by a shared consciousness, and are forced to protect themselves against a mysterious organisation trying to hunt them down. Given that the show was made by two incredible trans women – Lana and Lily Wachowski – it’s no surprise that the series follows a number of LGBTQIA storylines. One story in particular that fans adore is Nomi’s – the self-proclaimed “hacktivist.”
