Gillian Anderson and Hannah Einbinder in the same film? Count us in. I Saw The TV Glow director Jane Schoenbrun has announced their next feature film Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma, and we are freaking out.

Schoenbrun has described the film as their attempt at making a “sleepover classic”. Ding, ding – sapphic alert. When you combine sapphic awakening icon Gillian Anderson with bisexual star Hannah Einbinder, it’s sure to be a hit with the LGBTQIA community.

In this new film, an infamous slasher franchise is getting yet another reboot. But when the film’s director becomes obsessed with a mysterious actress who played the “final girl” in the original film, a whole new kind of slasher emerges.

Last year, Schoenbrun’s film I Saw The TV Glow gained a huge queer cult following for its unique, nuanced depiction of trans identity. Starring the beloved star Jack Haven, Schoenbrun has been praised for their detailed queer storytelling within the horror genre. As reported by Deadline, Schoenbrun said: “I make movies I wished existed when I was a kid”.

Speaking on the new film, they added: “[Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma] is an insane yet cozy midnight odyssey that beckons to unsuspecting viewers from the horror section at the local video store. I couldn’t be more excited to be heading to sleepaway camp this summer with the mad comic genius Hannah Einbinder, the legendary Gillian Anderson, and the daring folks at MUBI and Plan B, who by greenlighting this movie have summoned a plague-like flood of blood, guts, and various other fluids to rain down on us all.”

It’s safe to say that both Gillian Anderson and Hannah Einbinder are queer icons. Gillian offered a queer awakening to sapphics everywhere in her role as Dana Scully in the X-Files, and has been a staunch supporter of the community. Hannah has also captivated audiences with her role in Hacks and for openly discussing her bisexuality in comedy sets.

Alongside the recent news about Aubrey Plaza and Margaret Qualley’s new lesbian detective film Honey Don’t!, it’s safe to say that the sapphics are being blessed at the moment on the big screen.
