Celebrity Big Brother launched on ITV on Monday night with 13 new housemates entering the iconic house ā and leading the charge was JoJo Siwa.
The 21-year-old performer arrived in true JoJo style, wearing a hot pink bedazzled motorcycle jacket and matching gloves. Known for her start on Dance Moms, Siwa has since reinvented herself as a queer pop artist and outspoken LGBTQIA figure, making her one of the most high-profile and talked-about stars to join the show this season.
On entering the house, she said: āIād say my strengths are making people laugh and smile and have a good time ā thatās my forte.ā
Siwa has consistently used her platform to speak openly about her sexuality and identity. She came out publicly in 2021 and has since embraced the label āqueer,ā sharing her story on her podcast JoJo Siwa Now. āI was on the phone with my girlfriend at the time, and I said, āI think I wanna come out to the world.ā I posted this picture and threw it on my Instagram Story, and thatās how I confirmed it⦠I didnāt think twice about it,ā she explained.
Since then, sheās pushed boundaries in both image and sound, shifting her music towards what sheās dubbed āgay popā ā a genre she controversially claimed to have invented. Her inclusion in the house is already being seen as a big moment for queer visibility on primetime television.
Also joining the line-up is none other than RuPaulās Drag Race UK winner Danny Beard, bringing even more LGBTQIA representation to the series. Known for their bold drag and sharp humour, Danny is expected to be a key personality this season.
Other housemates include Mickey Rourke, Jack P. Shepherd, Patsy Palmer, Chris Hughes, Daley Thompson, and Michael Fabricant MP.
