If you’ve been missing Suranne Jones on your screen, you’re in luck. The BBC has announced that sapphic fan-favourite Vigil will be returning for a third series, packed with even more drama, danger, and of course a whole lot of DCI Amy Silva.
Due to start filming later this year, Suranne and Rose Leslie are set to come back as the beloved characters DCI Amy Silva and DI Kirsten Longacre. This new series will see them sent to a remote Arctic research station, where a member of a covert British special forces mission has been shot dead.
If that wasn’t thrilling enough, the hostile terrain poses a number of new challenges such as diffusing international confrontation, driven by disputes about land and energy.
Speaking about the new series, Suranne said: “I can’t wait to return to Vigil series three, see our brilliant team in Scotland and work with Rose again. I’m sure it will be a thrill of a ride.”
Rose added that this will be Vigil’s “most high-stakes mission yet”. Series two saw DCI Silva head on a submarine to solve a murder, cementing the series as one of the UK’s most successful dramas this decade. It was even nominated for a Best Drama Series at the 2022 BAFTAs.
Fans were quick to flock to this news, with one user writing “Yes that’s a win for the lesbians.”
Another commented: “This is such an incredible surprise! So excited for SILVACRE to come back!”
Series one and two of Vigil are available to stream on BBC iPlayer now.
