Chelsea striker Sam Kerr and West Ham midfielder Kristie Mewis have announced that they are expecting a new addition to their family in 2025. The Australian star posted the update on Instagram, writing: “Mewis-Kerr baby coming 2025!”
The picture posted alongside this exciting news saw the couple beaming while holding an ultrasound image.
Sam and Kristie have become a beloved football couple amongst LGBTQIA fans ever since they got together in 2021. In the past, they’ve spoken about the difficulties of being in a long-distance relationship – with Sam in Australia and Kristie training in the US. Just last year, the couple announced that they were officially engaged, causing a wave of sapphic joy to flood through the football scene.
In response to their exciting news, many teammates and other football stars have reached out to express their support and excitement. English footballer Fran Kirby wrote: “Omg 😍 congratulations both of you! ❤️”
Lioness star and fellow Chelsea footballer Millie Bright also commented: “Ahhh so bloody happy for you both and can’t wait for a T4 baby 😍💙👶🏼”
Unfortunately, while the post received a number of positive messages, it also attracted some homophobia. Chelsea Pride released a statement on X, reminding fans that the club was no place for homophobia. “‘No to Hate’ isn’t just a slogan,” they wrote. “It’s a battle cry. It’s a reminder that we must keep fighting for what is right, for true acceptance, and for a game that embraces everyone without exception.”
