A new film about women’s football has launched an INDIEGOGO fundraising bid to help raise £16,000 to create a 15-minute short film directed by Sara Harrak. Entitled Solers United, the film follows the story of a grassroots team that is trying to raise funds to keep their beloved pitch.

Starring the likes of Leah Harvey (A Gentleman In Moscow), Sara’s new film is a celebration of women’s sport, and specifically the power of your local team. With executive producers like Dame Kelly Holmes on board, the film is set to champion the importance of representation in sport.

Sara Harraks short F***KED took home the Iris Prize Best British Short last year for its honest depiction of a lesbian couple discussing desire, relationships, and sexuality. With Solers United, Sara is hoping to bring more queer representation – especially queer footie representation – to our screens.

Described by the team as “Derry Girls meets Bend it Like Beckham”, Solers United provides a powerful story about the importance of feeling like you belong, especially for queer football players. During our current renaissance of women’s sport, it’s important that we uplift the stories that celebrate our community.
