My Old Ass has just released its first trailer for UK audiences, and we cannot be more excited. The film, which originally premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, follows 18-year-old Elliott (Maisy Stella) who meets her 39-year-old self (Aubrey Plaza) after a mushroom trip. However, when her “old ass” starts warning her about things that she should and shouldn’t do, this leads her to begin questioning everything in her life.
The film is wonderfully queer and sees the likes of Maddy Ziegler filling the role of Ruthie and Percy Hynes White playing Chad. The writer and director, Megan Park, who first started out as an actor herself and previously directed The Fallout, spoke to Filmmaker on the concept of the film: “It was this idea of the last time your whole family sleeps under one roof, before one person moves away and starts a new season of life. And if you could go back and appreciate it in a way you hadn’t before would that be good? I wanted to make a movie that kind of transported everybody to that moment in time, like the last summer before you leave home.”
My Old Ass is being given a limited run in UK cinemas later this year, premiering on 27 September.
Psst… if you want to find out more about the film, keep your eyes peeled for our August/September 2024 issue, going on sale 26 July.
