The LGBTQIA film festival BFI Flare will be joined by none other than Elliot Page at this year’s celebration of queer filmmaking. On 15 March, the award-winning actor, writer, director, and producer will be giving a talk about his career after a special presentation of his new film Close To You the day before (14 March).

Written and directed by BAFTA-winning Dominic Savage, Close To You follows a trans man named Sam and his return home for the first time since his transition. On his journey, Sam rekindles with an old friend which sparks buried feelings to resurface. Alongside Elliot, the cast includes the likes of Hillary Baack, Wendy Crewson, and Alex Paxton-Beesley.

Elliot Page said: “I am thrilled that UK audiences will be introduced to Close To You at BFI Flare. The experience of collaborating with Dominic, Hillary, and the whole team was magical, and I am honoured to be a part of this film.”

Dominic Savage added: “I’m so excited that Close To You is having its European premiere at BFI Flare. It has been a real privilege to create this unique film about love, identity and family with Elliot Page and the incredible cast of actors. I’m looking forward to UK audiences feeling and appreciating the important themes and emotions that the film expresses.”

Last year Elliot expressed how “natural” it felt to be shirtless in this film, saying that starring in Close To You was the highlight of his career.

The full programme lineup for BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA Film Festival will be revealed on 13 February at 11 am.
