In a recent interview with Variety, Kristen Stewart said that she will not work on another project until she can secure the funding to create an adaptation of The Chronology Of Water. Written by Lidia Yuknavitch, the 2011 queer memoir is about the pursuit of self-expression, the desire of both men and women and the exhilaration of swimming. It is about a life that is laid bare, speaking of abuse, addiction, self-destruction and the crushing loss of a stillborn child.

KStew told Variety: “I’m going to make this movie before I ever work for someone else. Yeah, I will quit the f**king business. I won’t make a-f**king-nother movie until I make this movie. I will tell you that, for sure.”

Following this interview, she told The Hollywood Reporter at the Sundance Film Festival: “I have to do it, I think Sundance is definitely a place to understand that the only reason that you should make something is because you need to do it. There’s this sort of essential, vital thing about making marginalised art and being on the sidelines and then coming to a place where you’re like, dude, we do hear you.”

“If I keep working for other people, even if I’m inspired and totally in love with those stories, what am I doing? Of course, I want to make my movie. Yeah, that’s all I want to do.”

Kristen announced the adaptation of The Chronology Of Water back in 2018, further revealing that Imogen Poots would be starring in the film in 2022. But Variety has reported that they have run into financial problems.

There’s no need to panic though as we will definitely be seeing our favourite queer icon on our screens this year in the lesbian thriller Love Lies Bleeding and the sci-fi romance Love Me.

We wish Kristen all the best in pursuing her dreams and look forward to the release of the film at some point in the future!
