The influence of Audre Lorde – the legendary writer, professor, philosopher, intersectional feminist, poet and civil rights activist – knows no bounds. From her contribution to poetry to books like Zami: A New Spelling of My Name, Audre inspired and uplifted generations across the world.

To celebrate what would have been her 90th birthday, the film producer and creative Veronica McKenzie has pulled together a team to host a Black Lesbian Warriors event on Saturday 17 February. Taking place in an intimate venue in central London, this event will welcome lesbians and/or non-binary lesbians who identify as Black, Asian or of colour.

Hosts for this event include the iconic LGBTQIA activist Femi Otitoju and the award winning author of 11 books Valerie (Vimalasara) Mason-John. The event will also see contributions from writer and filmmaker Pratibha Parmar, poet Dorothea Smart, artist and photographer Ingrid Pollard, and Sistermatic’s very own Yvonne Taylor.

In order to fully commemorate and celebrate the impact that Audre Lorde has had, the event will begin at noon and continue throughout the evening, including everything from short films, music, dancing, networking, and food. Join others in workshops to reflect on the influence she had on Black Asian Lesbians of Colour (BALOC) in Britain during the 80s, 90s, and 2000s.

This event aims to ensure that Audre Lorde’s legacy is retained and remembered by younger generations.

Save the date! The event organisers welcome allies to support this event by donating to help them raise the funds needed: https://buytickets.at/audrelordeday/1121638/share/7047ddb5fca48f18a19a1eb193dacaf6
