Who else is excited for season two of the HBO hit show The Last Of Us? Queer fans of the show rejoiced when the series announced that Isabela Merced had been cast to play Ellie’s love interest, Dina.

Isabela, known for her roles in Dora And The Lost City Of Gold (2019) and Instant Family (2018), will be playing alongside queer icon Bella Ramsey who plays Ellie.

The showrunners have confirmed that the second series will follow the storyline of the game, meaning that we get to see Ellie and Dina as love interests. In the game, the pair embark on a quest for revenge, even though Dina is hotly opposed to it.

Co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann were ecstatic about Isabela’s casting: “Dina is warm, brilliant, wild, funny, moral, dangerous and instantly lovable.”

“You can search forever for an actor who effortlessly embodies all of those things, or you can find Isabela Merced right away. We couldn’t be prouder to have her join our family.”

Earlier this week, LGBTQIA audiences also rejoiced when Booksmart’s Kaitlyn Dever was cast in the role of Abby.

Season two of The Last Of Us is expected to air in 2025. You can watch season one on HBO now.
