The celesbian talks to DIVA about love, life and activism
INTERVIEW BY NIC CROSARA, IMAGE BY MARTIN SALGO
When Amber Whittington was 25 years old, she started a YouTube channel @AmbersCloset to help anyone struggling with their identity, and to showcase her style. She has now amassed 800K subscribers who see her as a positive role model for the LGBTQIA community. This is not only because she discusses LGBTQIA topics on her channel, but also because seeing a Black lesbian get to lead a full life is hugely impactful. Here at DIVA, we truly love Amber and everything she stands for, so it’s such a pleasure to have her on our cover.
If you can’t wait for your issue to come (or if you haven’t ordered one yet), here’s a teaser of what you have to look forward to!

Amber on…
Her L Word crush
“Bette’s my girl… She was, still is, so fine. I’m still trying to get a kiss.”
Dating in the public eye
“I learned the hard way what to keep to myself, because I had two relationships very publicly on the internet and when those two relationships ended it caused a lot of stress.”
Remaining hopeful in her activism
“It’s not easy… Every time it feels like steps are taken forward, we take a lot of steps back as well.”
