We are honoured to be joined by the co-founder and CEO of UK Black Pride

BY ELLA GAUCI

As 2023 draws to a close, we’re already counting down the days to Lesbian Visibility Week 2024. Taking place between 22 April – 28 April, next year’s celebration of the wonderful lesbian community and all LGBTQIA women and non-binary people is set to be bigger than ever. And therefore we need some help. It is an honour to announce that our DIVA team will be joined by none other than Lady Phyll

Phyll Opoku-Gyimah is the nucleus of the award-winning celebration and protest that is UK Black Pride. Widely known as Lady Phyll – partly due to her decision to reject an MBE in the New Year’s Honours list to protest Britain’s role in formulating anti-LGBTQIA penal codes across its empire – she is also the executive director of Kaleidoscope Trust, an organisation working to uphold the human rights of LGBTQIA people around the world. Next year, Lady Phyll will be stepping down from this role to become the first CEO of UK Black Pride

“I am absolutely thrilled to announce that I am joining the dedicated team working on Lesbian Visibility Week,” Lady Phyll told DIVA. “I am committed to ensuring that our efforts are intersectional, inclusive, and impactful. And yes, there’s a surprise in store that’s bound to add an extra layer of excitement to our mission. Stay tuned!”

We are absolutely thrilled to be joined by Lady Phyll for this momentous week.

Lesbian Visibility Week 2024 is set to be one of our biggest! We’ve even set up our own Film Festival in partnership with Iris Prize.

DIVA magazine will celebrate 30 years in print in 2024. If you like what we do, then get behind LGBTQIA media and keep us going for another generation. Your support is invaluable.
