After making and breaking it for several years, Cardi B and her husband Offset have officially called it quits on their marriage.

The rapper broke the news to millions of fans on Instagram Live earlier this week, explaining that although she’s now been “single for a minute”, she hadn’t been able to find a way of telling the world until now.

The WAP rapper and Offset have been through trials and tribulations throughout their marriage, with accusations of cheating (made by Cardi) and infidelity perpetuating their relationship since the two were married in 2017.

Most recently, Offset was accused by American rapper Blueface of sleeping with his ex-girlfriend Chrisean. Offset denied any involvement with Chrisean whatsoever, but nonetheless, has been in the thick of the rumours. It was only when Cardi was asked to comment on the alleged affair that she instead broke the news that the couple had already broken up.

Although she said she didn’t think that the affair (“and stuff”) was true, she didn’t care to find out for herself. “But I feel like today has been a sign. The last time I got on Live, I kind of wanted to tell you guys but I didn’t know how to tell you so I changed my mind. But it has been like this for a minute now,” the rapper told fans.

The ex-couple share two children, Kulture and Wave, from their tumultuous six years together. Famously, one year after they were married, Offset used her Rolling Loud set as a venue for a public apology, attempting to present her with a massive floral arrangement that read “Take me back Cardi”. Needless to say, it didn’t go well. Someone powerful enough to make history as the first woman to headline the festival isn’t going to readily accept an oversized bouquet from a man taking up her set time.

Nonetheless, the two rekindled their relationship until 2020 when she filed (and later dismissed) a divorce order on the back of yet another scandal.

Now, three years later, Cardi is officially single and ready to start fresh. “I want to start 2024 fresh, open, I don’t know, I’m curious for a new life and a new beginning. I’m excited.”
