Their new campaign is hoping to open conversations about gender diversity whilst raising vital funds
BY ELLA GAUCI,
In the run-up to Trans Awareness Week (13-19 Nov), the charity Mermaids launched their fundraiser Raise A Mug in order to raise vital funds for trans and non-binary young people. Mermaids is asking corporations and communities to sit down with a cuppa and talk about gender diversity as a means to empower people with knowledge.
When you sign up to be a fundraiser you will receive a free digital pack which includes sweepstake posters, cake toppers, zoom backgrounds, event posters, bunting, and much more! There will even be a virtual baking competition judged by Mermaids staff as part of the campaign, so you can really channel your Bake Off dreams.
2023 has been an exceptionally hard year for trans and non-binary people. Many people have to wait up to seven years for an initial appointment with gender services, and hate crimes towards trans people have risen by 11% since last year.
£10 raised could pay for an hour of a trained Helpline Officer being on the end of the phone to a young person in need. £50 could help to cover the cost of delivering training to healthcare professionals to better support a young person. £100 could pay for the hire of a local venue and for Mermaids to be able to provide a safe and welcome space for trans young people and families.
So raise a mug with Mermaids and get the conversation rolling while fundraising this November!
