The football lovers have fans in a frenzy with speculation

We all know that sapphics are the best at soft launching their relationship, but what about engagements? Football fans everywhere collectively gasped when American soccer player Kristie Mewis posted a picture to Instagram with a very shiny rock on her engagement finger on 24 October. While the couple hasn’t confirmed or denied the engagement allegations, this picture definitely seemed to wink at the idea.

The pair officially confirmed their relationship during the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and have since shared details of their long-distance relationship with fans. While Kristie didn’t explicitly announce that this photo was an engagement photo, the caption “Some old some new” seemed to have fans thinking that she was hinting at a potential wedding in the future.

“CASUAL ENGAGEMENT DROP” one fan commented on the post, with others saying “Soft launching their engagement is so on brand for them”. One comment even pointed out that the last post in the Instagram carousel looked suspiciously like it was taken from an engagement photo shoot…

Sam Kerr, who plays for Chelsea FC and the Australian national team, also added fuel to the engagement allegations earlier this month by posting an Instagram photo with a ring on her engagement finger too. One fan even wrote: “We all see the ring right?”

The pair have been a firm favourite football couple since they officially hard-launched their relationship in 2021, sharing beautiful moments from their relationship online with fans. While it doesn’t seem like the pair will confirm these rumours any time soon, we’re thoroughly enjoying being detectives on this one. Maybe we’ll have a casual wedding photo soft launch soon…
