Jodie Foster has done it. I’m officially interested in swimming. For someone who can barely do a length in the pool without swallowing a gallon of water, I am on the edge of my seat to see her new film, Nyad. Starring alongside Annette Bening who will play Diana Nyad, this film will follow the story of the iconic lesbian swimmer who swam from Cuba to Florida at the age of 60, defying all critics.Â
Playing the role of Diana’s coach Bonnie, the first-look images of Nyad were enough to make us wish it was 3 November already. Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival, Nyad has received 100% on the movie-reviewing app Rotten Tomatoes.Â
The film has also received rave reviews from critics everywhere, with Deadline saying: “Bening continues to reach new heights in her long and impressive career, and this one ranks near the top. She is matched by Foster, really nailing Stoll’s energy, frustration, and friendship, and along the way delivering her best screen work in years, a reminder of this star’s true grit and timeless talent.”
We didn’t expect anything less from Jodie and Annette!
The Los Angeles Times said that “it’s her [Bonnie’s] heroic endurance you leave this movie thinking about”. Entertainment Weekly even went as far as to say: “Bening and Foster are a joy to watch and will unquestionably be part of the Oscar conversation.” Perhaps we might see Jodie Foster add a third Oscar to her collection.
