In this week’s DIVA Dating Digest we dive into the history of one of our favourite couples

For this week’s DIVA Dating Digest, we took a look at one of our favourite love stories. Since 2014 we have swooned over the beautiful relationship between Orange Is The New Black star Samira Wiley and writer Lauren Morelli. From friends to parents, we have adored watching their relationship progress every step of the way.
Join us as we look back at the timeline of the magical love story.
December 2012 – Met on the set of Orange Is the New Black
Their meet-cute is like something out of a movie. Samira and Lauren became friends while shooting the infamous queer cult classic show Orange Is The New Black. Samira played the iconic character Poussey Washington while Lauren was the lead writer on the series.
In an interview with Out magazine, Samira said that she thought Lauren was gay the first time she met her. However, Lauren at the time was married to a man so the pair were just friends. Lauren does admit in their interview with Out that she had a crush on Samira after watching her audition tape.
“I had started questioning my sexuality as a result of being in the writers’ room and talking about all the themes on the show,” Lauren said to Out magazine.
2014 – Samira and Lauren officially start dating
After realising that she was gay, Lauren wrote an essay for Mic where she came out officially. In 2014, Lauren divorced her husband and she began dating Samira.
“I remember walking down the street in New York and finally being able to hold her hand, and how huge that felt,” Lauren said to Out magazine. “It had been such a journey to discover my sexuality, and to claim it in this public way was incredible for me.”

October 2016 – Lauren proposes to Samira!
The pair shared their engagement with the world on Instagram via a smiling selfie in October 2016. In the picture Samira showed off her ring and just captioned the post with “Yes”. The pair revealed to Out magazine that Lauren proposed before a weekend in Palm Springs.
“Then she got me up, and we started dancing together, and she pulled a ring from behind the couch,” Samira gushed.
March 2017 – The pair tie the knot
On 25 March, Samira and Lauren said “I do” at their wedding in Palm Springs. Wearing custom designs by Christian Siriano, the pair chose the theme ‘Confetti’ for their wedding.
May 2021 – The couple announce the birth of their first child
In April 2021, Samira and Lauren were blessed with their first daughter. A few weeks later for Mother’s Day Samira posted a cute snap of their newborn with the caption: “Happy 1st Mother’s Day to my beautiful wife, who four weeks ago today after laboring for almost 3 days gave birth to our first child—our gorgeous daughter, George.”
“Welcome to the world, babygirl. We love you and we thank you for giving us the best 1st Mother’s Day two ladies could ask for.”
