Equalities minister Kemi Badenoch has shut down claims that the government is planning to create a blanket ban on children changing gender at school. The Telegraph posted an article on 22 July alleging that Rishi Sunak’s government was proposing a complete ban on trans students expressing their gender identity.

Responding to this article by The Telegraph (which has since been deleted), Kemi Badenoch said: “This is a legally incoherent, silly season story,” Badenoch wrote. “It hasn’t come from anyone in my dept or No10 working on Equalities policy. I know there’s much interest in this area but pls wait for facts. If it isn’t coming directly from me, it’s probably not accurate!”

So far, the government has not given a publication date for their guidance regarding trans students in schools. There have been a number of concerns regarding some of the alleged guidance such as forcing teachers to out trans pupils to their parents.
