Jacquie Lawrence’s Gateways Grind tells the story of The Gateways club, premiering at BFI Flare this month

BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival, the UK’s longest running queer film event, has just announced its 2022 Industry Programme, featuring a range of fantastic talks from new talents as well as industry titans. The creator of Different For Girls, Jacquie Lawrence, will be one of the amazing figures in BFI Flare’s interview series The Makers celebrating individuals who have made a major contribution to LGBTQIA+ film and television throughout their career.
In her roles as Commissioning Editor for Channel 4 and Head of Development for World of Wonderwhere, Lawrence commissioned and produced many different incredible queer stories. Following the adaptation of her novel Different For Girls into the popular web series directed by Campbell X, she created Gateways Grind, a feature-length documentary which will screen for the first time at BFI Flare 2022. Appearing alongside her in The Makers will be Rikki Beadle-Blair MBE and Chase Joynt.
The industry talks and panels hosted by BFI Flare will cover a variety of different topical conversations including authentic authorship in filmmaking, past and present censorship in LGBTQIA+ cinema, creating mentally healthy productions and queer interdisciplinary storytelling. As well as these incredible talks, industry delegates will be able to take part in the Trans Film Pitch, speak with Together TV about their Diverse Film Fund, and participate in BFI Doc Society 1:2:1 sessions.
BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival will also be putting on screenings of Girl Picture, This Is Not Me, Wildhood, Sirens, In From The Side and TRAMPS! for industry and press delegates.
