Introducing the award-winning short film by Fia Perera

Fellow movie buff, are you in the need for a queer movie night in? 15 September promises to be an engaging evening, so save the date! Join Dawn Fields, Fia Perera, Debra Wooton, Susie Green, Hilliard Guess and DIVA’s very own Linda Riley over on ClubHouse at 19:30 BST for a screening of the film. A free link to the short film will be shared within the room and a Q&A will follow the viewing. Could it get any better? Yes! This project will also be raising funds for the organisation Mermaids

Mermaid is an 11-minute long film following 10-year-old Cassie (Marik Knight), a bullied trans youth struggling with gender identity who forms a deep connection with Pepper (Harrison White) a grief-stricken drag queen. The award-winning film was written and directed by Fia Perera, produced by Hilliard Guess and is part of the Journeys Through The Mind anthology which was produced by Dawn Fields.

If you like Mermaid, you’ll like the others within the collection too. Journeys Through The Mind is the first instalment in Her Movies series of anthologies. The collection is made up of nine films, made by women, about women and exploring a range of genres and themes. The shorts focus on mental and emotional health and tackle a range of topics from grief, body image, morality and anxiety. Though they address transphobia and homophobia, viewers will leave with a sense of hope and a reminder of the determination of the human spirit.
