Hollywood actors Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor have been together for five years now, and the pair went from quietly dating to striving to normalise age-gap relationships in the media.
From when they first met to today, here’s a complete timeline of Sarah and Holland’s adorable romance.
2005: The pair first locked eyes at a party a decade before they began dating
Sarah and Holland first met at a party back in 2005, but Sarah was dating actor Cherry Jones at the time.
She told The New York Times in 2016 that she was instantly blown away by Holland’s beauty that first time they met, saying Holland was “probably the most exquisitely beautiful woman” she’d ever seen.
2015: Holland slid into Sarah’s DMs after reconnecting through work
On a 2019 episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Sarah said that they started following each other on Twitter after working together on a PSA for Martha Plimpton’s women’s rights organisation in 2015.
“It’s a long story. We met a very, very long time ago. I was with someone else; she was, too,” Sarah recalled. “We sort of breezed by one another, and then started following each other on Twitter, and then …”
Fellow guest Billy Eichner asked, “Holland Taylor slid into your DMs?”
“She actually did,” Sarah replied. “Yeah, it’s pretty great.”
November 2015: Holland revealed that she was dating a much younger woman in a radio interview
Holland discussed the age difference between her and her new girlfriend during an interview with the radio station WNYC, without revealing the name of her partner.
“There’s a very big age difference between us, which I’m sure shocks a lot of people, and it startles me,” Holland said.
December 2015: The press first announced their relationship
Shortly after Entertainment Tonight broke the news that Sarah and Holland were an item at the end of 2015, Sarah called her girlfriend her “favourite actress” on Twitter after watching her in a performance of Ripcord in Manhattan.

Less than a month later, she gushed that her partner was her “favourite human” in a birthday tweet.

January 2016: They made their red carpet debut at the Critic’s Choice Awards
Sarah was nominated for best supporting actress in a limited series for her role on American Horror Story: Hotel at the 2016 Critic’s Choice Awards, where the couple made their red carpet debut.
March 2016: Sarah officially confirmed their relationship
In a 2016 interview with The New York Times, Sarah opened up about her relationship with Holland for the first time.
Sarah said: “My choices in romantic partners have not been conventional, and therefore the idea that it’s ‘other’ makes it compelling.”
“If my life choices had to be predicted based on what was expected from me from a community on either side, that’s going to make me feel really straitjacketed, and I don’t want to feel that…what I can say absolutely is that I am in love, and that person happens to be Holland Taylor.”
September 2016: Sarah gave her girlfriend a shout-out at the Emmy Awards
During a red-carpet interview with E! News, Sarah said, “Hi, Holland -Holland Taylor, if you’re watching, I love you.”
In response, Holland tweeted, “If I’m watching … ?? If I’m WATCHING??? YES, I’m watching — !!! good LORD! … I LOVE you!!!”

January 2017: Holland gushed about her relationship with Sarah in a radio interview
In an interview on Sirius XM’s Sandyland with Sandra Bernhard, Holland opened up about her relationship with Sarah.
“I’m the luckiest person in the world,” she said. “I can’t talk about my life today and not mention this wonderful love.”
January 2018: Sarah discussed their age difference in an interview
In the interview with Town And Country, Sarah was asked to discuss being in a relationship with an older woman.
“I do not want to be defined by who I share my bed, my home, my soul with,” she said. “My choices in life have been unconventional, and that’s my business.”
September 2019: Holland spoke fondly of Sarah in a TV interview.
Holland did an interview with Fox 11 LA to promote the Global Truth Center’s The Inner Truth event in 2019.
When asked to describe her relationship with Sarah, Holland said, “She’s really a person of such variety it’s hard to describe her, and this is one reason why she’s a great actor.”
January 2020: Holland called Sarah “brave” to be in their relationship
In a January interview with Us Weekly, Holland said that “it’s kind of a mystery” to her why Sarah is still with her.
“I’m surprised by Sarah. I mean, that we love each other and respond to each other this way is not the surprise, but that she would make a commitment like this and that she would share her life with me is a constant surprise every day really,” she said.
“A big age span is a challenge to any relationship. And she’s just very brave. She’s very brave and she is very truthful and she’s going to live her truth. And so I basically am following her lead and I’m blessed,” she said.
