Pride In London announces official theme for 2020 via powerful video calling for “allyship, love and understanding”

Pride In London have announced their official theme for this year’s Pride – #YouMeUsWe, and it couldn’t be more timely, as it calls out hopefully for a “crucial need for allyship in order to heal rifts between groups [within the LGBTQI community].”
The theme calls on people to share the stories and moments that define allyship for them – showing why it’s important – as well as the opportunities it brings for individuals, groups and communities.

According to the most recent figures from Stonewall, almost a third of LGBTQI people (32%) have experienced some form of discrimination from others in their local LGBTQI community. In comparison, three in five black LGBTQI people (61%) have experienced discrimination from other queer people because of their ethnicity.
On top of that, more than one in four bi women (27%) and almost one in five bi men (18%) have experienced discrimination from others in their local LGBTQI community, alongside more than a third of trans people (36%). Nearly four in five women-loving-women (79%) have experienced misogyny from other queer people (according to The Invisible Women report, published April 2019).
“Pride in London’s 2020 theme #YouMeUsWe is a rallying cry to the LGBT+ community,” explained Tom Stevens, director of marketing for Pride In London. “No matter your identity, it calls on each of us to reach out, understand and support one another, demanding us to be better allies within our own community.
“Historically, the Pride movement was built on a core foundation of us standing up for one another. As LGBT+ people, especially those from marginalised communities, continue to come under attack from many sides, this allyship is as important now as it has ever been.
“It’s down to all of us to celebrate identity, and make sure Pride In London is a pride for everyone. It’s down to You, Me, Us, We.”
