Laura Muldoon took to Twitter to speak out about the homophobic abuse she says she received from fellow passengers while on a Ryanair flight.

The social media manager shared a photograph of a group of men on board her plane, swearing and sticking their thumbs up at the camera.

She accompanied the picture with the words:

“First holiday snap! Of this bunch of lads who chanted that I was a ‘miserable bitch’, ‘dyke’ and ‘lesbo’ (very well observed!) on @Ryanair flight 12.27 from Stansted to Seville today. Oh yeah, flight crew did nothing. #holidayvibes #outofofficeon #rainontheplane

At the time of writing, this post has received over 3,000 retweets and more than 4,000 likes.

Laura has been inundated with messages of support, as Twitter users express their outrage over the incident. Among those who responded was stand-up comedian Suzi Ruffell, who asked: “Hey @Ryanair what are you going to do about this?”

The airline has replied to Laura’s original post, saying: “Hi Laura, we are sorry to hear this. Please submit a complaint here contactform.ryanair.com where our customer service department can investigate this.”

DIVA has also contacted Ryanair for further comment.

This story breaks shortly after news of a surge in homophobic hate crime in England and Wales. The Guardian reports that offences against LGB people have doubled since 2014, while offences against trans people have trebled.
