βBlack and brown people started this movement and we wonβt rest until weβre all freeβ
World Pride 2019 has just announced its grand marshals and our very own DIVA columnist Phyll Opoku-Gyimah is among them. We couldnβt be prouder of the LGBTQI role model and co-founder of UK Black Pride.
Phyll commented:
βI am honoured to march alongside a community of people who are working tirelessly to advance the rights of LGBTQ people across the globe. Black and brown people started this movement and we wonβt rest until weβre all free.β
This yearβs World Pride will be held in New York and is set to be extra special as it marks 50 years since the historic Stonewall riots.
Other grand marshals include the amazing ladies of Pose: Mj Rodriguez, Indya Moore, and Dominique Jackson, activist, author and creator of the trans pride flag Monica Helms, The Trevor Project and the Gay Liberation Front.
NYC Pride March Director Julian Sanjivan said:
βIn a world where LGBTQIA+ people continue to experience profound oppression, the NYC Pride March is a beacon of hope and community. This June 30th, that beacon will shine the brightest it ever has.β
We can’t wait for this epic celebration of our community. Happy Pride, DIVAs! π
