Showtime has confirmed a new series of your favourite show will air this year

BY ROXY BOURDILLON

It’s official. Like totally, seriously, 100% official, for real. The L Word is back with an eight-episode series due to premiere in 2019.

Showtime announced the glorious, gay news at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. They confirmed that queeroes Jennifer Beals, Leisha Hailey and Kate Moennig will reprise their roles as Bette, Alice, Shane and Lords of the Lesbians. They will also serve as exec producers alongside the The L Word’s legendary creator Ilene Chaiken.

Joining your old faves is playwright and screenwriter Marja-Lewis Ryan, who is onboard as the brand new showrunner.

Showtime has promised the revival will reflect “how members of the community’s relationships, their lives, and experiences have evolved and what has changed (and what hasn’t) since the show’s inception.” Let’s hope that means more diversity, sensitivity around trans storylines and a whole lot less casual biphobia.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Other characters from the original series” could also appear. Fingers crossed we’ll get to see as many of our loveable, lively, luscious ladies as possible.

Look out for more on The L Word Reboot in the upcoming March 2019 issue of DIVA.
