Would you trust a friend to help you on your quest for love? Or one step further: would you let them influence how potential lovers perceive you?

Well, dating app Hinge is offering your mates the chance to help you find the one. Their new feature, “Friend’s Take”, provides you with a link that can be sent to friends or family. This link gives anyone the opportunity to answer a prompt about you, which can be shown on your profile. This could be a photo, a voice memo or just a written answer. It’s the dating equivalent of having references on your CV.

“Your friends see you clearly, often more clearly than you see yourself,” Logan Ury, Lead Relationship Scientist at Hinge, explains. “They know the qualities you’d never think to mention like, ‘She’s the sweetest dog mom.’ or ‘He’d never admit this, but he’s the person everyone calls in a crisis.’ Friend’s Take finally gives your community a place to share these special details about you.”

Recent data from Hinge shows that LGBTQIA+ daters are 18% more likely than heterosexual daters to say that they would introduce someone to their friends so that the other person could understand them better. Within the LGBTQIA+ community, friendship is often more than just platonic. For some, it’s akin to family. This new dating app feature honours the importance of friendship in our lives, and helps to paint a well-rounded picture of who we are.

“Dating has always been a team effort, but until now, there hasn’t been an easy way for the people who know you best to be part of creating your Hinge profile,” Ben Celebicic, Hinge’s Chief Product and Technology Officer, said. “Friend’s Take makes room for those who are always alongside you as you date and gives potential matches a richer, more authentic sense of who someone is before they meet.”

So… do you trust your friendship group to help you find true love? I guess you’ll have to find out.
