It’s been a good year for LGBTQIA+ television. The BAFTA Television Awards with P&O Cruises (10 May) was a beacon of queer joy. LGBTQIA+ musicians Cat Burns and AURORA also took to the stage for truly incredible performances. Here’s a list of all the queer stars and shows that won big at the BAFTAs.

Reality – The Celebrity Traitors

As a surprise to no one, BBC’s Celebrity Traitors took home the BAFTA TV Award in the Reality category. The series featured several queer icons like Cat Burns, Clare Balding, Alan Carr and Stephen Fry. Hosted by none other than Claudia Winkleman, The Traitors has captivated audiences for its campy theatrics and quote-worthy moments. Within the game, a handful of contestants are chosen as Traitors who “murder” castmates, known as the Faithfuls. If the Traitors can successfully conceal their identity, they could walk away with the entire cash prize for charity. The Celebrity Traitors also picked up awards for P&O Cruises Memorable Moment Award for Alan Carr’s iconic win.

Limited Drama – Adolescence

Netflix’s critically acclaimed series Adolescence took home the award for Limited Drama at the BAFTA TV Awards. The four-part series follows a family whose world is turned upside down when their 13-year-old son, Jamie, is arrested for murdering a schoolmate. The show stars queer icon   Erin Doherty, who plays clinical child psychologist Briony. The show has also won big at the Critics’ Choice Awards, Golden Globes, Emmys and more.

Soap – EastEnders

Running for over 41 years, EastEnders has become a firm favourite soap for LGBTQIA+ fans due to the relationship between Eve and Suki. Lovingly known as #Sukeve, recent episodes have explored Suki and Eve expanding their family through their ongoing adoption storyline. After a chaotic journey – including that fateful wedding episode – the pair now seem to be in a stable, happy place.

Sports Coverage – UEFA Women’s Euro 2025

After the Lionesses brought it home last year, the sports coverage of the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 took home a special trophy at the BAFTA TV Awards. The Euros featured countless incredible LGBTQIA+ players, including Beth Mead, Jess Carter and Leah Williamson. The tournament helped to pave the way for more diversity and inclusion in football.
