Attention all lesbian, sapphic and queer screenbuffs! It’s that time of the month when we all get excited about LGBTQIA+ releases coming to cinemas and streaming platforms. So, without further ado, let’s see what there is to look forward to this April. Spoiler alert: There are a lot of gems to have on your radar.
Hacks: Season 5
We are so not ready to say goodbye to this cast of iconic characters. But that’s exactly what we’re about to do in this fifth and final instalment of this beloved multi-Emmy-winning queer comedy series. Following the mistaken and unflattering news reports that Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) passed away, she and Ava (Hannah Einbinder) return to Las Vegas on a mission to secure Deborah’s legacy as a comedian.

Coming to Sky and NOW in April
XO, Kitty: Season 3
This K-Drama-inspired spin-off to the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before franchise is back, baby! We’ve watched the titular character navigate her bisexuality, messy love life and academic pressure. Now, Kitty’s embarking on her last year at her international school. She’s got a plan to make it perfect, but surprise revelations throw her off her track. Can she learn to embrace the unexpected?
Available to stream on Netflix from 2 April
Anfamol: Season 2
This series was originally a stage play written by award-winning author Rhiannon Boyle. In the TV show we see Bethan Ellis Owen step into the shoes of Ani. Viewers have praised the drama for its honest portrayal of the reality of being a mother. In this next instalment, we jump a year and a half forward since we last saw Ani. She’s learned to love herself, and now it’s time for her to find real romance. But could a familiar face from her past ruin everything?

Available to stream on 5 April on S4C, S4C Clic and BBC iPlayer at 9pm. On 8 April the show will be on again to include English subtitles.
The Boys: Season 5
The stakes couldn’t be higher for the fifth and final instalment of this satirical show. These egomaniacal, superpowered humans are leading everyone into all-out war. We’ll also get to see LGBTQIA+ characters from its spin-off show, Gen V, joining The Boys for its epic finale. This season is bloodier and more shocking than ever.
Available to stream on Prime Video from 8 April
Mother Mary
From the director behind The Green Knight comes this electrifying and haunting original feature. Sapphics have been eagerly awaiting Mother Mary ever since it was first announced some years ago. Anne Hathaway (Eileen) and Michaela Coel (I May Destroy You) play a fictional pop star and fashion designer, respectively. The events that follow their tense reunion will have you on the edge of your seat. The film boasts a star-studded cast including Hunter Schafer (Cuckoo), FKA twigs (The Crow) and Kaia Jordan Gerber (Bottoms). Musicians Charli xcx and Jack Antonoff provide the soundtrack.
Coming to US cinemas on 17 April and UK ones on 24 April
