There are so many fascinating facts when it comes to lesbian and sapphic sex. There are so many to choose from, but today, I’m focusing on five of my favourites. How many of the following do you already know?

Lesbian women orgasm more during sex

Did you know that lesbians tend to orgasm more with their partners? A 2023 study found that lesbian women are statistically much more likely to climax during sex compared to heterosexual women, and they’re also less likely to report rarely or never reaching orgasm.

Sapphics are all about quality over quantity

The very same study found that compared to heterosexual women, lesbians report having sex less often, but also report greater enjoyment when they do have it.

Women expect orgasms more often when being with another woman, which might be why we generally don’t struggle with the orgasm gap

A research article from 2024 found that women tend to expect more pleasure and orgasms with female partners than with male partners. This is mainly due to differences in sexual expectations based on our partner’s gender. This could be part of why the orgasm gap is so much bigger in heterosexual hookups.

The median age for when lesbians have their first same-sex sexual encounter is 19 years old

A population-based study from 2021 found that the median age at which lesbian women have their first sexual experience with another woman is 19 years old.

It also found that one’s family situation, how independent one lives, and where one was born and raised are linked to when one has their first sexual experience with another woman.

We love clitoral stimulation!

A survey done on 13,000 queer women found that as many as 99 % love clitoral stimulation in different forms. This probably isn’t much of a surprise, as it’s what it takes for a majority of us to be able to reach all the way.
