Art School Girlfriend, also known as Polly Mackey, has been providing the LGBTQIA+ community with songs to yearn, dance and scream to since 2016. She’s played everywhere from Heaven to Latitude Festival, selling out tours along the way and joining artists like The Japanese House around the world. Alongside her own music, Polly is a lecturer in music production at the University of the Arts London. Now, Polly is back with her third album, Lean In. Her most experimental to date, the record tracks the fragility of life, its existential questions, and reflects on how lucky we are to even be here.
Are you ready for your sneak peek at what the musician had to say within the pages of our The U-Haul Issue?
Art School Girlfriend on…
The music industry: “I’m so not about this greasy pole that we get shoved onto as an artist that you have to keep climbing.”
Working with her wife: “Our skillset is so complementary that we would like to produce for other people together.”
The LGBTQIA+ community: “We really stood on the shoulders of what the community went through in the 20th century.”
