You thought 2024 was gay as hell? Think again! The lesbian renaissance continued its world domination this year, and we were so here for it. From football success to some iconic music videos, here are some of our favourite moments from the last 12 months.

This summer was all about one thing: the football. Europe’s beloved tournament brought sapphics from around the world flocking to Switzerland to see some of our favourite LGBTQIA+ players win big on the pitch.

We love it when celebs do random side quests. Nothing gets more random than Americana icon Brandi Carlile deciding to rock up in lesbian bars around the States to sing some karaoke.

Betty Who’s infamous interview made major headlines this year. Reneé’s response – “Don’t bring my big f**king lesbian name into your mouth” – was iconic.

This iconic pair proved that love is still real by tying the knot in private. Their low-key wedding at Casita Del Campo only confirms what we already knew: they are cooler than we’ll ever be.

This singer-songwriter quickly became a favourite on the hit BBC show after she was made a Traitor. We fell in love with Cat’s gameplay, friendship with Alan Carr and (of course) her clothes.

Look, we haven’t been able to stop thinking about this music video since it came out. It’s now made even better by the fact that these two are officially coupled up. Yep, that steamy snog sort of gave it away…

Like some sort of magical lesbian fairytale, boygenius’ Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker revealed that they were actually together, finally answering fans’ theories. Lucy continued to be a total queer icon this year by marrying same-sex couples on stage during her tour.
Performative masc competitions taking the world by storm
We absolutely loved seeing mascs around the world bring all their tote bags, carabiners and jorts to compete against each other in these grassroots competitions. The trend has expanded out now, including performative femme competitions too.

From Grammy wins to spicy lap dances, Doechii has had quite the year. This bi-con is making waves, and it seems like there’s no stopping her rise to the top.
Kate Moennig and Leisha Hailey release new book
If you’re a fan of the podcast PANTS, this news was no surprise to you. The L Word icons Kate Moennig and Leisha Hailey released their memoir So Gay For You which tracked both of the stars’ lives.
Amy Spalding’s DYKE rings go viral
This year has been a pretty big one for I Kissed A Girl alum Amy Spalding. Her brand SLT Studios went viral for their DYKE rings, which were worn by community members and celebs alike. This year Amy hosted Dykonic Times in order to raise money for Queer Britain and The London Dyke March.
Chappell Roan finally releases The Subway
Chappell Roan basically ran 2024. This year, she’s continued to wow LGBTQIA+ listeners with the release of tracks like country anthem The Giver. This year Chappell also released fan-favourite song The Subway, which gave us all something to belt out when we’re missing the one that got away.
CMAT has us all taking a sexy picture of her
This Irish icon has had quite the year! After the release of her album Euro-Country, CMAT pretty much got the entire world to do the “woke macarena” with her to her song Take A Sexy Picture Of Me.
The Hunting Wives breaks the internet
If there’s one show that everyone was talking about this year, it was Netflix’s new series The Hunting Wives. Whether it be the MAGA-coded lesbians, guns or wigs, this series had us in a campy chokehold.
The Ultimatum:Queer Love gave us one more messy season before being cancelled
Look, it wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea. We know that messy breakups, shocking revelations and Spotify scandals aren’t for everyone. But we’re glad we got to enjoy one more series of Netflix’s The Ultimatum: Queer Love before it was cancelled.
LGBTQIA+ veterans memorial unveiled
After years of campaigning, Fighting With Pride finally unveiled a statue dedicated to the LGBTQIA+ veterans who served during the military ban. The King attended this event, and the statue now acts as a reminder of the immense pain that these veterans had to endure simply for being who they are.
